Alexis Silkwood Joins SYFP for 2018 Season

Updated: Oct 3, 2018

Conroe, TX – May 8th, 2018 – Scrap Yard Fast Pitch, LLC (SYFP) brings depth to the team’s pitching staff this 2018 season with the addition of the small-but-mighty left-handed pitcher, Alexis Silkwood! Silkwood will be reunited with former Bulldog teammate, Kayla Winkfield, who she played with from 2014-2016.

Alexis Silkwood can easily be considered one of the best to ever play for the Mississippi State Bulldogs and has her name covered in nearly every pitching category in MSU’s record books. Silkwood is currently a Student Assistant Coach for the Bulldogs team and holds eleven career MSU records. She ended her career first in wins (59), strikeouts (555), innings pitched (665.0), appearances (145), and complete games (50). She holds MSU season records as well, ranking first in consecutive scoreless innings (33.1), from February 7 to March 1 in 2014. Silkwood is a two-time NFCA All-South Region selection, Third Team in 2015 and Second Team in 2017, along with being the first pitcher in school history to record more than 500 strikeouts and pitch in 600 plus innings.

When asked about her thoughts on this upcoming season, Alexis said, “I’m very excited for this new chapter! Scrap Yard Fast Pitch has a vision that I believe in, want to be a part of, and one that will ultimately grow the game. To have the opportunity to still play professional softball is such a blessing and I cannot say thank you enough to everyone who has helped me along this journey. It’s going to be so much fun playing with Winkfield again! Softball has taught me so much about working with others, handling all kinds of situations and even about myself. I look forward to giving back to the sport that’s given me so much.”

Head Coach for SYFP, Mike Steuerwald, stated, “Alexis is an awesome piece to add to our pitching staff because she comes in and competes. After watching her in the circle in the past, I always knew she was going to come in and work in any situation she was faced with. It will be fun to have her arm and competitiveness on our roster this season.”

Scrap Yard Fast Pitch Director Connie May added, “Alexis brings another lefty to the roster and with her ability to spin the ball, will be a great compliment to the staff.”
