Amanda Kamekona Added to 2018 Roster
Conroe, TX – May 10th, 2018 - Scrap Yard Fast Pitch, LLC (SYFP) adds veteran infielder Amanda Kamekona to the roster for the 2018 season! “AK” brings to the SYFP roster a true softball veteran who is a professional both on and off the field.
The former baseball star made the switch to the softball in high school and has never looked back. Kamekona went on to play at Cal St. Fullerton for two seasons (2005 and 2006) before transferring to UCLA for the 2008 season. While with the Bruins in 2008, Kamekona earned First Team All-Pac-10, Second Team All-Pacific Region, and Third Team All-American honors after leading the Bruins in home runs (14), runs batted in (46), runs scored (47), doubles (17) and slugging percentage (.663).
Following a great collegiate career, Kamekona began playing professionally in 2012. Her professional career currently spans 6 seasons with 250 games played. Her professional stats include 23 career homeruns! “AK” has also been a part of 3 championship teams during her six seasons as a professional softball player. It’s safe to say Kamekona knows what it takes to be a winner.
Kamekona commented on her signing with SYFP by saying, "I’m so excited to play for Scrap Yard Fast Pitch this summer! I’m looking forward to playing with my extremely talented teammates and against international teams."
Scrap Yard Fast Pitch Head Coach Mike Steuerwald commented by saying, “Kamekona is a great veteran presence! She is a true professional in every sense of the word both on the field and in the community. Not only will she contribute with her athletic talents, but also with her ability to teach younger players on the roster how to perform professionally day in and day out.”
Scrap Yard Fast Pitch Director Connie May added, “Amanda brings the Championship mentality of the Sue Enquist era of UCLA to the Scrap Yard. She is an exceptional teammate and can be counted on to do whatever it takes to win. She is a coaches DREAM.”
