London Marder Commits to Texas

08/17/2018 2:52 PM - The Woodlands, TX - August 18, 2018 - Scrap Yard Internationals is proud to announce that London Marder has verbally committed to the University of Texas! London is a Senior at Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas, and boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA. The Longhorn Softball Program, now lead by newly appointed head coach Mike White, will gain London’s talents in the fall of 2019 as they head into their second season in the Mike White era.

London, a standout catcher and power hitter on the Scrap Yard Internationals 16U squad, was bursting at the seams with excitement about her commitment to one of the most recognized schools in the country. When asked about the decision to continue her career in Austin, London said, “Words cannot describe how thankful I am to be given this opportunity to be a Longhorn. I’m looking forward to this next chapter of my life and I am so grateful for all of the support I have received from my coaches, family, and friends along the way. It’s a dream come true to be able to play for Coach White who has so much knowledge of the game. My dream has always been to play in and win the Women’s College World Series... I believe the University of Texas is the key to all my dreams!”

Head Coach of the SI 16U team, Tommy Colonnetta, has seen London since some of her earliest days on the diamond. As Tommy tells it, “London's recruitment story is what it's all about for all young ladies playing this game. All of our players are special to Paul and I, but this kid really hits home for us. We have known London and the Marder Family since 8U & 10U days. Her mom and dad sponsored and coached a team for many years. We would literally see them and usually play against them every weekend. Well, in every player and parent’s softball road, it typically forks. We went left and they went right, until last year. We were playing in a tournament and we end up playing against our old friends the Marders. Long story short, after the game we extend an offer to London and her family to join our team and organization. She accepts, the next week goes to play ASA JO CUP in California with us and leads our team in hitting. The rest is history.”

While London is center spotlight for her commitment, the role of the parents in the recruiting process cannot be overstated. As many know, the success of a commitment means just as much to the parents as it does to the athlete. When London’s parents, Lorri and Bob Marder, were asked about this next chapter in their family, they said, “As soon as we got the news London was going to play for UT both of us just choked up! London has always had the determination desire, dedication, and discipline to reach her goals!! She calls it the 4D’s!!! London’s coaches have described her as a “Work Horse” she just never quits or gives up!! We are both just so proud and overjoyed for her and can’t wait to see her in a Longhorn uniform!”

Congratulations to London and the Marder Family! Hook 'em!
