Riley Rutherford Verbally Commits to UT Tyler
Conroe, TX – September 13th, 2019 - Congratulations to Scrap Yard Internationals 18U athlete Riley Rutherford for verbally committing University of Texas at Tyler! Riley is a 2021 catcher and first baseman who currently attends Cinco Ranch High School in Katy, Texas. She holds a 3.7 GPA and is involved with FFA program, as well as playing on the softball team. Her athletic accomplishments include All-Academic freshman and sophomore year, and her softball accomplishments include 1st Team All-District freshman and sophomore year, along with being a two-year varsity letterman.
When asked about committing to UTT, Riley said, “I am beyond excited and honored to have accepted an offer to be a part of the UT Tyler family. It has been a dream of mine to play at the next level ever since I can remember. I love UT Tyler because of all the amazing opportunities I have before me, both on and off the field. I am looking forward to playing for Coach Reed and Coach Wyly, as I believe their program and their goals are a perfect fit with mine. You know you made the right decision when you can see your future in front of you. My journey begins in 2021 at UT Tyler!"
Riley’s parents, Kristen and Jason Rutherford, were ecstatic offer their thoughts on the verbal commitment. Her parents said, “We are so proud of our daughter Riley for all of her hard work and commitment over the years to this sport. It has been her dream and passion to play at the next level since she stepped onto that softball diamond. We are also so grateful to all of her coaches and to the Scrap Yard Organization that allowed her the opportunities for her dream to become a reality. We are so excited for commitment and for her journey to continue at UT Tyler.”
Khadija Neely, head coach of the SI 16U team, was asked to share her thoughts on the big news. Khadija said, “Riley Rutherford is full of personality and energy! There is never a dull moment with this young lady, and she brings the laughs, hard work, and power to every game and practice. She is a very talented athlete and is going to be a great asset at the next level! We are very happy to have her apart of our program and we are excited to see her land with a great program at UTT!”

About Scrap Yard Internationals
The Scrap Yard Internationals experience is team focused. The 16U and 18U squads travel as a team on private buses and vans, and by air as needed. At home, all teams practice at the Scrap Yard Sports Complex in a safe and secure environment that includes 14 batting cages and 10 all-turf ballfields. This includes the Scrap Yard Stadium, home to the professional softball team, Scrap Yard Fast Pitch. In August of 2018, SI took their 18U an 16U squads to Tokyo, Japan for a week-long once-in-a-lifetime experience. The athletes played Tokyo Women’s College of Physical Education in a total of four games, experienced Japanese culture, and watched Team USA compete at World Championships in Chiba, Japan.
