Scrap Yard Fast Pitch Signs A.J. Andrews
Conroe, TX – April 30th, 2018 – Scrap Yard Fast Pitch, LLC (SYFP) is extraordinarily proud to announce the signing of one of the most historical athletes in the game of softball, A.J. Andrews! With extensive professional experience, Andrews will prove to be an excellent addition to the 2018 roster with game-changing defense in the outfield and dynamic offensive skills at the plate.
A.J. was one of the most dynamic players to play for the LSU Tiger softball program, leaving her mark in Baton Rouge as a fan-favorite in the outfield. During her collegiate career, Andrews was awarded SEC All-Freshman Team in 2012, 1st Team All-SEC in 2013, and 2nd Team All-SEC in 2014 and 2015. She totaled 240 games in a Tiger jersey with a .354 career batting average, 5 home runs, 95 RBIs, and a whopping 97 stolen bases.
In November of 2016, A.J. wrote her name in the history books when she was named the first-ever female Rawlings Gold Glove Winner after an outstanding season in the outfield, making multiple SportCenter catches worthy of a replay! After making headlines from the Gold Glove award, Andrews was given a coveted spot in the 2017 ESPN the Magazine Body Issue, where she represented the softball community amongst some of the most high-profile athletes in the world!
When asked about joining the team, A.J. said, “I'm extremely excited to continue my professional softball career and become a part of the Scrap Yard Fast Pitch family. Nothing is more exciting than the ability to play the sport I love at the highest level while also inspiring young girls to believe they can one day do the same. I appreciate everyone who has believed in me and has played a role in my professional career thus far. I love the fans of this game because they are who we play for, and I can't wait to greet those in the Houston area. My greatest desire is to keep having an impact on other’s lives and to continue to strive for equal opportunity for the young women that deserve the opportunity to play beyond college. The growth in popularity of college softball is encouraging, but growing that same love for professional softball is the ultimate goal. I am thrilled to continue to be a part of something bigger than myself in my new home of Houston!”
Head Coach Mike Steuerwald is eager to get A.J. on the field next month and watch her athletic ability shine. Coach Steuerwald shared his thoughts on signing Andrews, saying, “A.J. is a great addition to our team, and I’m excited to have the chance to work with her again. She brings a lot on and off the field and does a wonderful job engaging the fans. She’s going to be a great fit for us this summer.”
Scrap Yard Fast Pitch Director Connie May is ecstatic about adding such a key player to the roster and said, “What an honor it is to have the original female Rawlings Gold Glove winner join our endeavor. She's an incredible athlete and a gracious professional. Her ambassadorship to grow the game is unwavering and we can’t wait to get her to Houston!”
