USA All Star Janie (Takeda) Reed Heads to Houston
Conroe, TX – May 10th, 2018 - Scrap Yard Fast Pitch, LLC (SYFP) continues to add speed to the outfield position with the signing of former University of Oregon Duck, Janie Reed (Takeda)! SYFP will look for the former Duck’s talents to take flight both on the bases and in the outfield amongst a talent-loaded group.
Reed, a 2015 graduate of Oregon, joins the SYFP roster after a stellar collegiate career that saw Reed become a three-time NFCA All-American and a three-time All-Pac 12 member. Reed’s playing career at Oregon concluded a .392 bating average and over 102 stolen bases. In the outfield Reed made her presence felt with a fielding percentage of .942, which included only 13 errors in 241 games played!
Following her career at Oregon, Reed became a member of the USA Softball Women’s National Team. During her time with Team USA, Reed was a 3-time World Cup Silver Medalist, a 2016 WBSC Women’s World Championship Gold Medalist, and a 2017 Pan American World Championship Gold Medalist.
When Reed was asked about her signing to play with Scrap Yard Fast Pitch she enthusiastically responded, “I can’t wait to get started with Scrap Yard Fast Pitch this summer. It’s awesome what they’re doing with USA Softball and to help our country get ready to compete in Chiba, Japan this summer. I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about the organization, all the way from the players to the front office! I’m proud to finally be a part of the team!”
Scrap Yard Fast Pitch Head Coach Mike Steuerwald is thrilled to have Reed joining the team. When asked what Reed brings to SYFP, Steuerwald responded, “Janie is a fantastic outfielder and creates a lot of havoc on the base paths with her speed. She also brings experience at a high level both collegiately and internationally. She has been well-coached and it shows in her intangibles on the field.”
Scrap Yard Fast Pitch Director Connie May added her excitement to get Janie down in Houston, saying, “Janie an accomplished collegiate player and an even more accomplished Team USA Veteran. Her grace in the outfield and speed on the base paths will be exciting to watch. She is also the Co-Founder and Vice President of “Church on the Dirt” and we hope to bring that affiliation to the Scrap Yard Sports Complex this summer.”
